Master data management
(MDM) comprises a set of processes and tools that consistently defines and
manages the non-transactional data entities of an organization (also called
reference data). MDM has the objective of providing processes
consolidating, quality-assuring, persisting and distributing such data
throughout an organization to ensure consistency and control in the ongoing
maintenance and application use of this information.
There are
several benefits of using a Master data Management System, also providing a
data centric perspective governed by processes:
·
Reuse
of data models, forms. Some BPM require implementing user interfaces and
data specific to each process. It’s difficult for them to get multiple processes
to work in the same data instance, and very costly to express relationships
among data models. If this difficulty is handled by writing lot of system
integration calls spread along the process definition, the solution becomes
brittle, very exposed to changes in the details of the production
environment.
·
Transparent
integration. Once the data mapping is done, and exposed to processes, all
the read-writes-updates are managed transparently, without the need to
“clutter” the process implementation with explicit integration calls. This
one of the reasons why process analyst can focus in defining or reusing
data models, forms and in the process definition itself, without having to
think in the integration details related to data. This is automatically
solved to them.
·
On
top of these models, multiple user interfaces to data can be defined, and
create and present them depending on multiple process-based, data-based or
rule-based conditions. For example, we can define the model of a form for a
role or condition in the process, and other with different fields or
representation, on top of the same data instance.
·
Process
Models know Data models. Data instances know which processes instances are
working on them. Those abilities are required to handle the case management
scenario.
·
Search
and filtering of information is handled automatically. Customers often
demand the ability to search complex data (e.g. cases). Through the
integrated indexer and searcher, we can simply define a form to search
data, on top of the same entity, which properties are searchable (even with
complex relationships), and drag and drop a search engine component in the
web process workspace.
Polymita MDM
solution allows managing your data transparently, without consider if the
information reside in the Polymita system or third-party systems. This way,
you can define your business processes without having to worry about the
integrity of their data. Polymita MDM allows reducing the time of integration
(associated with the integration of system data) substantially, which may
be about 80% in a typical deployment.
